West Newton Cinema hosting daylong workshops for kids during strike

If you’re looking for something to keep the kids occupied while Newton teachers are on strike and the schools are closed, you may want to try the West Newton Cinema.

CinemaKidz is running 1-day workshops for kids ages 7 to 12 at the cinema Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of this week if schools remain closed.

Kids can sign up for one day or multiple days.

What: 1 Day film workshops

Where: West Newton Cinema

When: 9 a.m. to noon Jan. 30 and 31 and Feb. 1

Who: Forn kids ages 7 to 12, with a 1:6 staff-to-child ratio

24-Hour Film Race

West Newton Cinema is also having a challenge for kids and their teammates, giving them 24 hours to create a short film based on a secret topic to be revealed the morning of the workshop.

A CinemaKidz Movie Aficionado staff member will help will plan, film and edit a short video project and at the end of camp, the final projects will be screened and awards oresented.

Schedule:

  • 9 a m to noon: Meet the crew, plan and begin filming
  • Noon to 12:45 p.m.: Lunch on site, games and recess
  • 12:45 – 2 p.m.: Finishing up, award ceremony and dismissal

CinemaKidz provides all the technology necessary. Participants should bring a snack and a refillable water bottle.
