U.S. Rep. Jake Auchincloss launches reelection campaign [VIDEOS]

U.S. Rep. Jake Auchincloss, D-Newton, met with supporters at a home in Waban on Sunday afternoon to launch his 2024 reelection campaign.

Auchincloss, 35, served on the Newton City Council before he was elected to Congress in 2020. After two years in which his party held the majority—and on Sunday he laid out a lengthy legislative achievement list—he’s dealing with the opposition having control of the House.

“[Republicans] complain about the federal debt but have voted for tax cuts to expand it, and they assure us that the smart way to trim spending is to fire Head Start teachers,” he quipped. “They agonize about crime, and they lobby to defund the FBI. And they chew up—as we have seen these last few weeks—their own moderates, they chew up their own leadership, all in this pathetic bid to impress Tucker Carlson and Donald Trump.”

Auchincloss told supporters he plans to keep pushing for a federal assault weapons ban, funding for Newton’s commuter rail station renovations, support for Israel, voting rights, abortion rights and more.
