It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, which may mean “Mom and Dad can hardly wait for school to start again.”

But don’t worry, we have a great lineup of both free and paid events for children over winter break. Some events are drop-off and some require parent accompaniment.

Dec. 23

10 to 10:30 a.m.: Children’s storytime at the Newton Free Library with stories, songs, and rhymes. Designed for children ages 0-2 and their caregivers. Located at 330 Homer St. Free.

10:30 to 11 a.m.: High chair art class at Kidcasso, 1275 Washington St, for ages 0-2. $35.

11 to 11:30 a.m.: Children’s storytime at the Newton Free Library with stories, songs, and rhymes. Designed for children ages 0-2 and their caregivers. Located at 330 Homer St. Free.

3 to 3:45 p.m.: Children ages 2-4 can enjoy sensory craft activities at Kidcasso, 1275 Washington St. $35.

4 to 4:45 p.m.: Do Pokemon-themed crafts and enjoy an episode of Pikachu and Friends at the Newton Free Library, located at 330 Homer St. Designed for children ages 7 and up. Free.

Dec. 24

8 a.m. to 12 p.m., 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., or full day: Drop-off craft day for ages 8 and up at Knot and Purl, 17 Lincoln St, second floor. $90 for part day; $180 for full day.

Dec. 25

11 a.m. to 4 p.m.: Holiday open crafting at Knot and Purl for the whole family (this is not a drop-off event), located at 17 Lincoln St, 2nd floor. Materials will be provided for all to create at their own pace. $30 per person. Recommended for ages 4 and up.

Dec. 26

8 a.m. to 12 p.m., 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., or full day: Drop-off craft day for ages 8 and up at Knot and Purl, 17 Lincoln St, 2nd floor. $90 for part day; $180 for full day.

Dec. 27

10:30 to 11 a.m.: Saturday story time at the Newton Free Library, designed for ages 0-2. Free. 330 Homer St.

Dec. 28

9 a.m. to 6 p.m.: Weekend open craft day at Knot and Purl, 17 Lincoln St, 2nd floor. Prices between $30-$45 (free for adults who are not crafting but are accompanying their children). A variety of materials provided to create at one’s own pace.

12:30 to 2 p.m., and 2:30 to 4 p.m.: Learn how to sew with your child at Hipstitch, 1276 Washington St. Ages 6 and up learn to use a sewing machine, 4 and up for hand sewing. $80 for one adult and one child; $30 per additional child. 

Dec. 29

2 to 3:30 p.m.: Enjoy a Bluey craft day at the Newton Free Library. Designed for ages 3 and up. Free. 330 Homer St.

6 to 8 p.m.: Teens are invited for a Jeopardy night at the Newton Free Library. There will be pizza. Registration required. 

Dec. 30

2 p.m. to 4 p.m.: Children in grades 5-12 are invited to compete in a Mario Kart Tournament  at the Newton Free Library. There will be snacks. Registration required.

Dec. 31

10 a.m. to 11 am: Kids up to age 5 and their caregivers can enjoy open play, crafts, and a disco light party at this daytime New Years Eve event at Little Beats, 94 Rowe St. $40 per

11 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Celebrate ‘Noon Year’s Eve’ at Bianca at 47 Boylston St, with a family-friendly daytime New Years Celebration, with a DJ, dancing, and activities. Lunch buffet. Tickets are $54.13 per person (free for kids under 2).

Jan. 1

11 a.m. to 4 p.m.: New Years Day open crafting at Knot and Purl for the whole family (this is not a drop-off event), located at 17 Lincoln St, 2nd floor. Materials will be provided for all to create at their own pace. $30 per person. Recommended for ages 4 and up.

Jan. 2

10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.: Story and craft activity for kids ages 3-5 at the Newton Free Library, 330 Homer St. Free.

11 a.m. to 6 p.m.: Weekday open craft day at Knot and Purl, 17 Lincoln St, 2nd floor. Prices between $30-$45.

Jan. 3

9 to 9:45 a.m.: Children ages 2-4 can enjoy a sensory art activity at Kidcasso, 1275 Washington St. $35.

2:30 to 4:30 p.m.: Come watch Paddington in Peru (2024), about Paddington Bear visiting his family in Peru, at the Newton Free Library. 330 Homer St. Free. This film is 106 minutes and is rated PG.

Jan. 4
