When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie, that’s Festa.

And Festa is taking over Nonantum from Wednesday night through Sunday, with a parade and services honoring Mother Mary on Sunday. If y0u’re an Elvis fan, you’ll love Festa’s Saturday performances. If carnivals and carbs aren’t your thing, there’s a bounty of other events and activities for you. And aside from a 50 percent chance of some rain on Sunday, the weather forecast looks beautiful.

Here are seven things to do in Newton this weekend.

Friday, July 18

From 6 to 10 p.m., listen to drum and guitar duo Jabbering Trout and stick around to watch “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off,” at the Hyde Bandstand, 90 Lincoln St.

All evening, Festa in Nonantum will have a carnival, food and live music by The Legit Band.

Saturday, July 19

From 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., head over to Newton North High School for the Saturday Farmers Market.

All afternoon and evening, Festa in Nonantum will have musical performances by the Watch City Cadillacs and then “Viva Las Elvis,” an Elvis Presley tribute concert with Dan Fontaine and the Memphis Sun Mafia. There’s also a carnival so the whole family can enjoy rides, games and friend dough.

Sunday, July 20

At 6 p.m., hear Appalachian string music performed by the Ruth and Ben String Band at the Newton Centre Bowl near Tyler Terrace.

At 2 p.m., Festa will have a procession through Nonantum with the North End Marching Band. There’s also a carnival and there will be food trucks and vendors. There will be a candlelight procession at 10 p.m. closing out Festa and honoring the Madonna.

Also at 2 p.m., the Scandinavian Cultural Center will host a concert by the Mike Mosca Duo.

You can find more events or submit your own on our Events Page.

And the city has an ongoing list of arts-related events on the Newton Arts Calendar.
