Police report spike in vehicle break-ins around Newton

The warmer weather of spring doesn’t only bring flowers and taxes. It also typically brings out thieves.

The Newton Police Department is reporting more than a dozen motor vehicle break-ins across Newton in the month of May.

“A majority of the vehicles in these cases were left unlocked,” a statement by the department on Facebook reads.

Police are urging residents to always keep their vehicle doors and windows locked and suggest never leaving valuable items inside a vehicle or at least storing valuables inside the glove compartment.

And anyone with a pick-up truck is advised to cover the cabin area.
