In December, Newton residents Matthew and wife Lyla and their two daughters, Valerie and Violet, died from carbon monoxide poisoning in a house in New Hampshire.

Next weekend, the Newton Theatre Company will have a special performance at the Hyde Community Center paying tribute to the Goldstein family, as Matthew and daughter Valerie were actors with the theatre group.

Matthew was a longtime teacher in Brookline and one of the original members of the NTC. Valerie Goldstein, who was 22, followed in her father’s thespian footsteps at an early age, joining NTC through its youth program when she was in elementary school.

And Lyla and Violet enthusiastically supported Matthew and Valerie from the audience at just about every show.

On Saturday, May 31, starting at 7 p.m., NTC will host a special Monologue Project at the Hyde Community Center Bandstand honoring the Goldstein family, with people sharing stories, memories and songs.

Guests can gather on the Hyde Playground lawn (90 Lincoln St.) between 6 and 7 p.m. and even bring a picnic dinner to enjoy for the show, which will start promptly at 7 p.m. and is expected to end around 8:30 p.m.

Admission is free, but RSVP is requested. And there’s no rain date, so if the weather gets nasty, the performance will be moved inside.
