Newton South High School Principal Tamara Stras is leaving her position for an assistant superintendent role in Cambridge, she announced to the NPS community last week.
“While I am excited for this next chapter in my professional journey, leaving this community is incredibly difficult as this school has become such an important part of my life and heart,” Stras wrote.
Stras started as Newton South principal in July 2021, having previously served as an assistant principal at Haverhill High School.
“Over the past five years, it has been the honor of a lifetime to serve this community,” she continued. “Together, we have navigated moments of challenge, growth, celebration and transformation. Through it all, I have remained grounded in one core belief: schools thrive when relationships are rooted in trust, collaboration, mutual respect and a shared commitment to doing what is best for students. I thank you for sharing this belief with me.”
Stras’s exit means Newton will be getting two new high school principals. Newton North Principal Henry Turner announced a few weeks ago that he’s leaving for a job in Reading.
