Newton Police confiscate gun from teen’s home

This weekend was Gun Violence Awareness Weekend, and the Newton Police Department started it off with a troubling announcement.

On Thursday, police followed up on a report of a teenager in possession of a gun. They went to the boy’s home and found a handgun in addition to a 17-round magazine, a 31-round magazine and extensions.

“In addition, over 50 rounds of ammunition were recovered,” a NPD statement reads.

Police did not say the teen is considered dangerous and did not report any threats made. They also didn’t say where they believe the teen got the weapon.

“This weekend is National Gun Violence Awareness Weekend, it is a time to honor and remember victims and survivors of gun violence,” the statement continues.
