Newton North boys’ vastity team defeated Springfield Central High School 53-49 Tuesday night in the Division 1 state semifinals, and now they’re heading to the State Championships.
Tuesday’s game continues a streak for the Tigers, who have won 15 games in a row.
The star of the game was Teagan Swint, who has scored more than 1,000 points in his high school basketball career. On Tuesday, he scored 22 more points against Springfield Central.
The Tigers will enter the state championship for the first time in three years on Sunday when they face Franklin at the Tsongas Center in Lowell.
It’s likely to be a powerful game. Newton, at number 3 with 23 wins and one loss, will face Franklin High School, which is number 1 with 24 wins and 1 loss.
The state championships will be held all weekend, with Newton vs. Franklin set for Sunday at 6 p.m. Tickets are $20 if you want to go, or you can livestream it on the NFHS Network.
