Dear Editor,

As longtime residents of Newtonville and retired health care workers, we read with interest Bryan McGonigle’s article on Alison Leary’s campaign for Middlesex 10th Representative (Newton Beacon 06/18/26). We have worked with Alison for two years to promote the passage of An Act Establishing Medicare for All in Massachusetts (S.860/H.1405) currently under consideration on Beacon Hill. Our current health care system, dominated by large insurance and pharmaceutical companies, is failing to provide the care our residents need and the out-of-control cost of health care is threatening municipal budgets in Newton and state-wide.

Alison is deeply committed to health care as a human right and has provided critical leadership in this fight. This bill has been stalled on Beacon Hill for years in the Joint Committee on Health Care Financing, chaired since 2019 by her opponent John Lawn, despite enjoying the support of majorities of MA residents in several non-binding referenda. This is an example of the dysfunction of our current legislative leadership, a situation that Alison is committed to changing.

We urge voters in Middlesex 10 to cast their vote for Alison Leary on September 1.
