If April showers bring May flowers, we’re in for a colorful time next month. For now, just let the rain do its thing and remember that we’re still technically in a drought.
Besides, Newton knows how to do a rainy day. The villages are alive with the sounds of music all weekend, and there’s a play to go see, too.
Here are five things to do in Newton this weekend.
Friday, April 4
At 8 p.m., the Newton Theatre Company will present “Doubt: A Parable,” at Saint John’s Episcopal Church, 96 Otis St. The play, set in a 1960s Catholic school amidst a priest sex abuse scandal. If you miss the Friday performance, don’t worry. It’s showing all weekend.
Saturday, April 5
At 1 p.m., Swedish bassist/composer Bruno Råberg will perform a solo bass concert featuring his own compositions, Swedish folk melodies and jazz classics.
At 7 p.m., St. Ignatius Church will present a concert, “Piano Classics: Beethoven, Bach and Brahms with Chris Carson,” at 28 Commonwealth Ave.
Sunday, April 6
At 3 p.m., The Allen Center will host a concert celebrating classical traditions of China, India, and Japan, with a contemporary twist, at 35 Webster Street.
At 3 p.m., Second Church in Newton will host a concert, “The Passionate Viola,” with conductor Alyssa Wang, at 60 Highland St.
