It snowed this week, and the decorations are starting to appear in front of more and more houses around the city. The holiday season is here.
In Newton, that means lots of family-friendly fun. Some music, some theatre, some food and some cheer await you. There’s even a chance to visit Santa and get a selfie with him on Sunday.
Here are five things to do in Newton this weekend.
Friday, Dec. 6
At 7:30 p.m., the Allen Center will host a concert with the Berklee Voice Department, “In the Key of Now,” featuring Berklee’s Advanced Vocal Jazz Ensemble and directed by Prof. Ned Rosenblatt, with a special appearance by Professor Emeritus Donna McElroy.
Saturday, Dec. 7
From 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., the First Unitarian Universalist Society of Newton will host its Holiday Fair. There will be toys, home decor, jewelry and other gifts to peruse and shop for as well as a silent auction and a quilt raffle.
From noon to 4 p.m., the New Art Center, at 61 Washington St., will host “Find Your Light,” a pair of celebrations of Kwanzaa and Chanukah, respectively. Presenters will highlight similarities between the two celebrations and how they contribute to the Newton community’s diversity. The Kwanzaa workshop will run from noon to 3 p.m., and the Chanukah workshop will be from 1 to 4 p.m.
Sunday, Dec. 8
From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Newton South High School will host “Celebrate Newton Holiday Craft Fair,” featuring a day of shopping, live music and more than 50 vendors. Admission is $7 and all proceeds go to the Newton Cultural Alliance.
From 3 to 4:30 p.m., Knot & Pearl will host a free event, Storytelling and Photos with Santa, with the shop decorated like Santa’s Workshop. Registration is encouraged, because time slots for photos will fill up quickly.
