As we enjoy this stretch of gorgeous weather, you may want to spend some time outdoors.
Newton’s vibrant cultural community has you covered.
Enjoy live music under the stars. Celebrate the wonders and beauty of India at the Hyde. Try out a group bike ride to Boston. Soak in the summer air before the pumpkin spice fills it.
Here are five things to do (outside) in Newton this weekend.
Friday, Aug. 16
From 6 to 10 p.m., The Hyde Center will host an outdoor concert by Jabbering Trout and a showing of the movie “Groundhog Day. ” Jabbering Trout is a band from Boston whose career has included opening for Aerosmith, Dave Matthews Band, the late Jeff Buckley, and Ani Difranco and eventually becoming a headline act themselves.
Saturday, Aug. 17
From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Bike Newton will host a group bicycling trip to Long Wharf in Boston and then to George’s Island to hear “Wild Music.” The George’s Island stretch of the tour will include a ferry ride (free with pre-registration) so you won’t have to attempt to bike on water.
From 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., the Jewish Community Center of Greater Boston will host its annual Shabbat in the Sun, for JCC and Outdoor Pool members. There will be bounce houses, obstacle courses and a waterslide along with complimentary coffee and ice cream. The event is free, but registration is required.
From 5 to 8 p.m., the Indian-American Community of Newton is hosting India Day at the Hyde Center. The celebration of Indian arts and culture will include live music, dancing, vendors, food, Henna, face-painting and more. India celebrated the 77th anniversary of its independence from England this week.
Sunday, Aug. 18
From 6 to 7:30 p.m., Newton Cultural Development will host a free summer concert performed by Bo and the Winkler Band in honor of the city’s 150th anniversary at the Newton Centre Bowl in the open space adjacent to the playground and just down the hill from the Tyler Terrace hut.
