With summer fading and Newton’s local election just 10 weeks away, autumn’s attention will sharpen on the crop of candidates vying for elected office in the Garden City.
That means a cornucopia of election events, from forums and debates to meet-and-greets and whatever other names grace the gathering of City Council and School Committee hopefuls this fall.
The Charles River Regional Chamber is getting in on that action with multiple Newton candidate “conversations” next month.
- First up is mayoral candidate Marc Laredo on Sept. 3 at 9 a.m.
- On Sept. 4 at 9 a.m., the other mayoral candidate, Al Cecchinelli, will meet with the Chamber.
- On Sept. 10, at 1 p.m., the Chamber will talk with Ward 5 candidates Garry Miller and Julie Irish.
- On Sept. 25 at 2 p.m., the spotlight goes to unopposed candidates Brittany Hume Charm, Brian Golden and Jacob Silber.
“The focus for each forum will be on issues related to economic development, housing, workforce, supporting our non-profits, and the environment; however, general topics may also be discussed,” Chamber Public Policy and Government Affairs Manager Max Woolf said. “Questions from the business community in advance are welcome.”
And more events are expected to be added as election season proceeds, so keep an eye out. You can register for any of the events at charlesriverchamber.com/events.
This election is set to produce a new mayor and an almost entirely new School Committee (Tamika Olszewski and Alicia Piedalue are the only incumbents running for reelection, and Piedalue just started on the committee in April). And several City Council seats have competitive races.
The Newton Beacon will also have an election guide launching soon to help you navigate one of the busiest local election seasons in years.
