U.S. Rep. Jake Auchincloss, D-Newton, will serve on the House Committee on Energy and Commerce in the 119th Congress.

And he’s been assigned to the Health, Energy and Environment subcommittees.

“I am focused on lowering the cost of health care,” Auchincloss said. “Energy and Commerce is the prime committee for policy that can reduce co-pays and premiums, empower patients and doctors, and rein in the middlemen of corporate healthcare. I am excited to get working on legislation.”

The House Committee on Energy and Commerce also deals with energy policy, and battles over energy are sure to take a spotlight in the next few years with both Congress and the new Trump administration.

Auchincloss called out the incoming Trump administration a few days ago after The Prysmian Group—an Italian company that had planned a $300 million submarine cable factory at a decommissioned coal factory in Somerset—decided not to follow through with that project. President Donald Trump has said he opposes wind power.

“Alongside dozens of stakeholders, including state & local officials and union representatives, I have worked hard to make Brayton Point an exemplar of the clean-energy economy,” Auchincloss said. “Donald Trump has unraveled that promise of good jobs by threatening a moratorium on offshore wind, generating so much uncertainty that companies pull back investment. Despite this setback, I remain committed to Brayton Point’s redevelopment in partnership with the town of Somerset.”
