Newton Community Education has some new February vacation classes

Last year, Newton students didn’t get a February vacation because they had to make up days lost to the teachers’ strike. This year, February vacation is back. And that means finding things to do with the kids for five straight days.

Newton Community Education—an organization launched more than 30 years ago that hosts classes, camps and other programs for kids and adults in Newton—is in the midst of a financial turnaround and has risen to the task, announcing a bunch of new classes for next month’s weeklong school break.

All classes will be at Angier Elementary School, 697 Beacon St., Waban. Here are some new classes offered this year (and check out the full list of classes on their website):

  • All-in-One Adventures: Feb. 18 to 21, for kids in kindergarten through fifth grade, $240 per student. There are two classes, one that runs from 9 a.m. to noon and another that runs from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.
  • All-Star Hoopers: Feb. 18 to 21, 12:30 to 3:30 p.m., for kids in grades five through eight, $285 per student. The program will be led by Day Middle School Basketball Coach Keyon Armstrong.
  • EmpowHer Girls Wellness Journey: Feb. 18 to 21, for girls in grades six through eight, with one class that runs 9 a.m. to noon and another from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m., $285 per student. This program will be led by Leanne Eggiman, a certified personal trainer who founded the Girls Wellness Academy.
  • Junior Hoopers: Feb. 18 to 21, 9 a.m. to noon, $285. The program will be led by Day Middle School Basketball Coach Keyon Armstrong.

NOTE: Prices listed are for the entire week of the class, not for just a single day. And NCE has scholarship offerings, which you can apply for online or in person.

And it may be freezing outside, but this is the time to be looking at summer camps, as registration for those can fill up long before the first cricket of the warm season chirps.

NCE is already gearing up for the summer, so now is a great time to check out all the course and camp offerings they have for 2025.
