I’m writing to express my enthusiastic support for Julie Irish in her campaign for Ward 5 City Council. As a longtime resident of Newton Upper Falls and current president of the Upper Falls Area Council, Julie brings the kind of grounded, community-first leadership our ward deserves.
Julie has spent decades working alongside residents, families, city departments, and local organizations to improve our neighborhoods. Whether it’s supporting our schools and teachers, pushing for tree maintenance and pedestrian safety, or leading the revitalization of Pettee Square, Julie has shown she knows how to get things done and she does it with integrity, transparency, and heart.
Her vision for Newton is both practical and forward-thinking. Julie supports creative housing solutions like tiny homes, champions climate action, and understands the importance of strong schools and thriving local businesses. She’s not just talking about change, she’s been making it happen for years.
Julie’s professional background in psychology research and academic medicine adds another layer of thoughtful, data-driven problem-solving to her leadership.
She listens deeply, thinks critically, and builds consensus—qualities we need now more than ever.
I believe Julie Irish is the right person to represent Ward 5. She knows our community, she’s earned our trust, and she’s ready to serve with dedication and vision.
Please join me in supporting Julie Irish for City Council in November!! We would be lucky to have her representation!!
Sincerely,
Matt Lai
