We are delighted to welcome the Aryaloka String Quartet (Mark Latham and Beth Welty, violins, Noralee Walker, viola, Sandi-Jo Malmon, cello) back to Music Mondays to perform a thoughtful new program of string quartet music by the early 20th century French composer Maurice Ravel and three living composers: Arvo Pärt, Caroline Shaw, and Philip Glass. Their program will consist of “Summa” by Pärt, “Entr’acte” by Shaw, three movements from “Mishima” by Glass, and the first two movements of Ravel’s only string quartet. These four pieces may seem wildly different and yet they are united in their exploration of tone, color, sensuality, repeated motives, stillness and energy.
