Summer ain’t done yet. The past few days have given us a cooler preview of autumn, but the heat returns this weekend, with temperatures expected to be in the 80s and mostly sunny skies.

This weekend offers music and learning. Take the kids to learn about Mexican butterflies. Check out the concert and a screening of “Goonies.” Meet kids with war stories from Ukraine.

Here are five things to do in Newton this weekend.

Friday, Aug. 22

From 10 to 10:45 a.m., children are invited to learn about Monarch butterflies in Mexico, while dressed as butterflies, at this event at the Newton Free Library at 330 Homer St. There will also be games designed to teach Spanish vocabulary. Registration will open Aug. 8.

From 6 to 10 p.m., hear classic Italian music from the Newtalians, and stick around to watch “The Goonies,” at the Hyde Bandstand, 90 Lincoln St.

Saturday, Aug. 23

From 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., head over to Newton North High School for the Saturday Farmers Market.

From noon to 2 p.m., Hummingbird Books at The Street in Chestnut Hill, 55 Boylston St., will host a Children’s Local Author Fair, with more than 20 local children’s book authors, arts and crafts, face-painting and more.

Sunday, Aug. 24

From 3 to 5 p.m., Lasell University will host “Voices from Ukraine: Stories of War and Hope,” an original musical theater production where five Ukrainian children share their stories from the ongoing war, in their own words. After the performance, refreshments will. be served and guests can and meet the cast to learn more about growing up in a warzone.
