Newton tends to slow down for July, giving families time to take trips or just stay home and relax. But with so much culture and art in just 18 square miles of community, there’s always something to do.

Friday night is promising to have beautiful weather for an outdoor concert at the Hyde. The rest of the weekend looks to include 90-degree temperatures and some thunderstorms, but things will clear up comfortably for another outdoor concert on Sunday.

Here are five things to do in Newton this weekend.

Friday, July 12

From 6 to 8 p.m., as part of its Summer Concert Series, the Hyde Center will host a concert by the Black Velvet Band, a Boston-area band that performs hundreds of Irish and classic American songs. This concert will have a mix of Irish ballads, pub songs, rebel music, polka, Sinatra, Ed Sheeran and more from the past several decades in Irish and American pop.

Saturday, July 13

From 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the city will have its Saturday Farmers Market at Newton North High School.

From 5 to 7 p.m., Newton Cultural Development will host artist Fahima Ashori for her first-ever Boston-area solo exhibit and reception at 1294 Centre Street in Newton Centre.

At 7:30 p.m., comedian Gaurav Kapoor will perform at Newton North High School’s Lasker Auditorium. Kapoor has been performing stand-up comedy for more than a decade and has released a comedy special, “HahaKaar,” on Amazon Prime Video.

Sunday, July 14

From 6 to 7:30 p.m., Newton Cultural Development will host a summer concert as part of its Performances in the Park, with the Rico Barr Band, on the Newton Centre Bowl on Tyler Terrace. There’s lots of parking and plenty of room for blankets, so bring some friends and family.
