The Before & After of Estate Planning & Asset Protection

Elder Law Attorney Wendy Guthro will discuss the essential legal documents you should have to prepare for whatever life throws your way. The discussion will include the difference between a will and a revocable or irrevocable trust, how to use each, and how your estate is handled based upon the estate plan you implement. There will be time reserved for questions after the presentation.

Attorney Wendy Guthro finds great satisfaction in helping clients prepare for the future as she focuses her practice on Estate Planning, Probate, and Elder Law issues. A passionate advocate for the needs of young and old alike, she strengthens her commitment to community by volunteering regularly at the Council on Aging. She also serves on the General Bylaw Review Committee and has previously served as a Town Meeting Member and Land Use Committee Member. She has also donated her time and expertise as a pro bono attorney for victims of domestic violence through the NH Dove Program of the New Hampshire Bar Association. Wendy earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration, cum laude, from Northeastern University in Boston. In 2005, she obtained her Juris Doctorate from Massachusetts School of Law and was admitted to the Massachusetts Bar the same year. She earned admittance to the New Hampshire Bar the following year. She is an active lifelong learner as a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, ElderCounsel, and Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education

The event is part of the statewide Elder Law Education Program, presented by the Massachusetts Bar Association (MBA). It corresponds with the publication of the revised and expanded “2024 Elder Law Education Guide,” the15th edition of the resource guide, which is online at the MBA’s companion website, www.massbar.org/elderlaw

The Elder Law Education Program matches attorneys from the MBA and the Massachusetts Chapter of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA) with more than 80 councils on aging or senior centers throughout the state to make free presentations about the law.

Volunteer attorneys have participated in the Elder Law Education Program since 1987. The program is presented with the generous assistance and continued collaboration of the Massachusetts Chapter of NAELA.
