Join us for a special Newton screening of the award-winning documentary film Recovery City followed by a conversation with the filmmaker, Lisa Olivieri; the women portrayed in the film; and Dr. Catharina Armstrong, MPH Associate Director & Co-Founder of Substance Use Services and Staff Infectious Disease at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. Moderated by Dr. Antje Barreveld, Co-Founder and Director of Education & Outreach, Substance Use Services at Newton-Wellesley Hospital.

Recovery City is an unflinching look at addiction and recovery as seen through the eyes of four women in the working class city of Worcester, Mass. Christine fights to regain custody of her children. Janis and Rebecca navigate the city’s toughest corners trying to save lives, while Bridget’s daily meetings uplift those still struggling. Recovery City highlights the resilience and camaraderie of a community rallying around the belief that recovery is possible.

Don’t miss out on this chance to participate in this powerful evening of storytelling, resilience, and community.

The program will start with a 15-minute opioid overdose response and naloxone training. This event is presented in partnership between Newton-Wellesley Hospital, the Newton Health & Human Services Department, Newton Coalition for Community Wellness, and the Newton Free Library.
