It’s been a wet, windy December. And the city is taking some extra time to get all that yard debris.
The Newton Department of Public Works has announced that the city is keeping yard waste pickup going a bit longer.
“Due to the recent storm, yard waste curbside collection will be extended through Jan. 20,” the Department of Public Works posted on X (formerly Twitter). “Some collection delays may occur, please keep yard waste at the curb. We appreciate your patience.”
The last year has seen some big rain storms, including one in August that flooded the Newton Free Library parking lot and one a couple of weeks ago that flooded many streets in Newton and brought tree branches down all over the city.
And for the next few months, we could see snowstorms making matters worse. Accuweather is predicting more than three dozen inches of snow for New England this winter.
