Last August, the West Newton Cinema Foundation purchased the historic cinema and saved it from becoming just a nostalgic memory.
Next Thursday, Aug. 28, the cinema is throwing a big, free birthday party to celebrate and thank the community for helping to make that happen.
“This year has been filled with movies, conversations and connections that would not have been possible without your generosity,” the cinema’s leadership wrote in a message to the community. “To mark the occasion, we’re inviting everyone to enjoy a full day of free movies at the Cinema!”
The event will feature films from diverse genres, different time periods and various parts of the world.
