In Newton, we are blessed with a diverse array of creative cooks and delicious dietary options.
And while most people can find something to enjoy at any one of the excellent eateries in our area, one can only imagine what would result if some of them partnered up.
Well, imagine no more, because it’s happening!
Just in time for the weather to (hopefully) get warmer, the folks at Cabot’s Ice Cream and the family at Farm Grill have joined forces to create a Baklava ice cream that is truly the best of two worlds.
Featuring rich Greek honey, toasted nuts and full pieces of Farm Grill’s famously flaky baklava, the ultra-creamy ice cream will enhance any meal or summertime snack.
When asked if she had partnered with the Iliades family before, Cabot’s owner Karen Masterson said she had not, but insists that she is always up for collaborating with her friends and neighbors (most of whom are the same people).
“The previous owner of Cabot’s, Joe Prestejohn, has known Alex [Iliades] and his family for many years,” Masterson explained, citing Farm Grill as “a fantastic restaurant in Newton.”
When Joe recently asked Alex to help Karen with a fundraiser for the Carroll Center for the Blind in Newton, the Farm Grill founder responded with sheet pans filled with his authentic Greek baklava.
“Over the past two years,” explains Farm Grille manager Alex Iliades, “Cabot’s and Farm Grill have partnered during charity weekend events with the Carroll Center for the Blind. During these events, we were always side by side—Cabot’s serving their classic ice cream, and Farm Grill offering our homemade baklava.”
“We started putting a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top of the baklava,” Masterson recalls of the charitable event, “[and it] made a fantastic treat!”
“Guests truly loved the combination,” Iliades echoes.
In an effort to build on the success of the partnership, Alex asked Joe to make the combination an official flavor. The rest, as they say, will soon be delicious history.
“We bake our baklava in-house,” Iliades explains, “then bring it to the creamery where it’s blended into the ice cream for a rich, unique flavor.”
The new flavor is now available in scoops and pints at Farm Grille and may pop up at future events elsewhere as well.
“We’re excited to officially launch it,” Iliades says. “We’re proud of this collaboration and excited to share it with you!”
