DESCRIPTION:Part of The Allen Center’s Cherry Street Music series\, A Scottish Cèilidh is an evening of Gaelic folk music and dance led by caller Summer McCall and her band. Pronounced “KAY-lee\,” a cèilidh is a traditional Scottish (and Irish céilí) social gathering centered on lively\, inclusive group dancing. Guided by a caller who explains each step\, the event welcomes dancers of all ages and experience levels — no prior experience is necessary. Summer McCall has been an active member of Boston’s Celtic music community since 2019 and is a regular session musician on fiddle and cello. She serves as director of the Boston Celtic Music Festival\, presented annually by Club Passim. Her band features Elizabeth Anderson (fiddle)\, Adam Hendey (guitar)\, Stephen Thomsforde (pipes)\, and Simon Lace (drums). We hope you’ll join us for this upbeat evening of music and dance!

A feast for the senses\, the evening includes vignette performances by several of the artists represented during the year\, a revealing of mixed-media works by Laura Scheuerell including Steinway Series Reimagined\, and a curated spread of food and drink to savor. It is a time of growth for The Allen Center\, with exciting new partnerships with M. Steinert & Sons\, loaning us a 9 foot Steinway “D” Concert Piano\, and The Lydian String Quartet\, our new Ensemble In Residence. We are affectionately calling this year our Lucky 13\, as it is The Allen Center’s 13th year since the historic restoration began.
