DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, October 4\, 2025\, the League of Women Voters of Newton\, in coordination with the Newton North High School Center for Civic Engagement and Service\, and together with its co-sponsors\, The Village Bank\, Fig City News\, the Newton Beacon\, Charles River Regional Chamber\, Green Newton\, Newton Council on Aging\, Newton Cultural Alliance\, and Newton for Everyone\, is hosting a community event\, Saturday Afternoon at the Races. \nThis event will be held at the Newton North High School Cafeteria\, 457 Walnut Street\, Newton Centre\, 4:00pm – 6:30pm. \nNewton residents will have the opportunity to meet candidates running for municipal office\, learn more about the candidates’ positions on important challenges and issues facing Newton\, and ask the candidates questions about the issues they most care about. Candidates in attendance will include both incumbents and challengers\, and candidates in seats that are contested as well as candidates that are unopposed. While the event is timed to coincide with the beginning of early voting in the municipal election\, this event presents an opportunity for residents to create a relationship with their elected officials and hold elected officials accountable even after the election

SUMMARY:Newton League of Women Voters Saturday Night at the Races
DESCRIPTION:The League of Women Voters of Newton (LWVN)\, the Newton North High School Center for Civic Engagement and Service (CCES)\, and our nonpartisan co-sponsors\, invite all Newton voters to our candidating event\, Saturday Night at the Races. Voters will have an opportunity to meet the candidates running for local office and ask them about their positions on the important issues facing Newton. All candidates (whether they have a challenger or not) have been invited to participate. \nThe afternoon will be structured as a round robin. Each of the city’s eight wards will be represented at a table with each ward’s city council candidates. School Committee candidates will be available at two additional tables. Moderators assigned by LWVN\, CCES\, and our co-sponsors\, will be present at each table to make sure all voters have a chance to ask their questions and each candidate has an equal opportunity to speak. \nVoters will be given approximately 12 minutes at each table before they are signaled to move on to another table.
