SUMMARY:Zarzuela in Newton - A Hispanic Heritage Celebration
DESCRIPTION:Boston Opera & Zarzuela presents a classical lyric concert featuring solos and ensembles of the most well-known Zarzuelas of all time. \nZarzuela is a traditional Spanish musical genre that originated in the 17th century and has since evolved into a distinctive lyric form combining operatic\, theatrical\, and musical elements\, featuring a mix of sung and spoken parts. \nThe genre found its way to the Americas during the colonial period and subsequently experienced a notable expansion and adaptation. As Spanish culture took root in Latin America\, the genre merged with indigenous musical traditions\, creating a unique fusion that reflected the cultural diversity of the region. \nFeaturing international singers Alesandra Collins\, Michael Gonzalez\, Harry Otero\, and Lucia Panizza\, accompanied by Dr. Libor Dudas on the piano. \nAs a Hispanic led nonprofit organization\, it is part of Boston Opera & Zarzuela’s mission to share our musical heritage in Greater Boston. \nThis program is supported in part by a grant from the Newton Cultural Council\, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council\, a state agency.

SUMMARY:Dan Dyer “Portraits in Light” oil painting exhibit at the Newton Free Library
DESCRIPTION:The Newton Free Library is exhibiting “Portraits in Light” by Newton artist Dan Dyer in the Main Hall until December 30. \nIn describing the exhibit\, Dan states: “Whether painting cityscapes\, landscapes or portraits\, I always focus on the interplay of light and dark while trying to capture the mood/atmosphere of the scene before me. The goal is to capture the essence of the subject without drifting into photorealism. I also continue to explore portraiture and have included a few canine subjects as ‘relief’ from the more serious paintings. Please enjoy the show.” \nDan Dyer is a Newton based architect and artist. After almost 40 years as an architect Dan turned his attention to fine arts\, in particular\, oil painting. From his West Newton based studio he focuses on Cityscapes\, Landscapes and Peoplescapes. \nContact: ddyerart@gmail.com • www.ddyerart.com (web) • dandyer_art (instagram)
