SUMMARY:Electric School Bus at the Green EXPO Oct. 20 1pm
DESCRIPTION:Come See the Electric School Bus at the GreenEXPO @ Harvest Fair on October 20\nSunday\, October 20 from 11am-4pm. Langley Road in Newton Center.\nSpeakers’ Corner\nwith Greg Schwarz\, Vicky Danberg and bus companies:\n1pm at the school bus\nCome see and “kick the tires” of the electric school bus on display at the Green Expo @Harvest Fair. The Newton Electric Vehicle (EV) Task Force will be joined by representatives of the school bus manufacturer/dealer company\, who will be on hand to discuss the benefits of going electric and answer your questions.\nAt 1pm in front of (or inside) the bus\, there will be short speeches of endorsement and Q&A by\n• Greg Schwarz\, candidate for Massachusetts Representative;\n• Vicky Danberg\, Newton City Councilor;\n• Jason Raposa\, regional manager of Highland E-bus Company;\n• a representative of New England Transit Sales.\nModerators will be Philip Vergragt and George Kirby of the EV Task Force.\nWhy are Electric School Buses Important?\nNewton and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts have set ambitious climate goals. Transportation is the largest emitter of greenhouse gases in the Northeast. Electrification of cars\, trucks\, buses\, and trains is well underway\, supported by federal funds from the Inflation Reduction Act. Electrifying school buses is also key: diesel-fueled school buses emit toxic chemicals\, which are especially dangerous for children’s health.\nIt’s critically important for us to build consensus in Newton and move forward with an electric school bus demonstration project. We urgently need to act on our priorities for climate sustainability and reduce toxic fume exposure to our children sooner rather than later.

SUMMARY:Join us: Rally to Urge Statehouse Action on Climate Bills
DESCRIPTION:With only 60 days left in the Massachusetts statehouse session\, Newton will host one of seven rallies being held across the state on May 21st\, calling on legislators to do more for climate justice this legislative session. The rallies are organized by Mass Power Forward\, a coalition of over 200 Massachusetts organizations and leaders. \nFor one hour\, beginning at 5:30pm on the Newton Centre Green\, local activists will meet to sing\, chant\, and hear informed and inspiring speakers. The MPF coalition’s Rally message to the statehouse is this: act on critical climate bills now\, while there is time to craft good solutions\, not rushed compromises. \nFor three sessions in a row\, important bills have been left to the last minute\, making it nearly impossible for legislators and the public to engage in a meaningful democratic process. The corporations and utilities benefit from the last minute dash.
