DESCRIPTION:The Eliot Church of Newton invites the community to an illuminating presentation on the history of African missions in the United Church of Christ by linguist and historian Dr. Emmanuel Sithole on Sunday\, August 16\, 2026\, at 11:45 a.m. \nDr. Sithole\, originally from Zimbabwe\, will discuss the research he is doing in the archives of Harvard University and in the Boston Congregational Library and Archives. \nThe conversation will foster a deeper understanding of UCC history and will provide support for a young scholar who is doing vital\, timely work. \nAfter the presentation\, an offering will be collected to support Dr. Sithole’s research. Electronic donations are also welcome. Please indicate that the contribution is intended for Dr. Sithole. \nEliot Church is located at 474 Centre Street\, Newton\, MA.

SUMMARY:The Yale Whiffenpoofs in Newton!
DESCRIPTION:The Yale Whiffenpoofs — America’s oldest collegiate a cappella group — will perform at Eliot Church (474 Centre Street) on November 20\, 7:00-8:15 PM. The concert will feature Newton’s own\, Caroline Fai. Tickets are $25 ($15 for children and students) and available at this link. \nSince their founding in 1909\, the Whiffenpoofs have brought their diverse repertoire of vocal jazz\, folk\, pop\, and Broadway hits to more than two hundred audiences each year across all 6 inhabited continents. In past years\, the ‘Whiffs’ have sung for Presidents Obama\, Bush (41 and 43)\, Clinton\, and Reagan\, and at venues including Carnegie Hall\, Lincoln Center\, and the Kennedy Center. They’ve even been featured on television shows such as “The Sing Off\,” “The West Wing\,” and “Glee.”
