DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, June 28\, 2025\, The Cat Connection of Brighton and serving the MetroWest communities of Massachusetts\, will be hosting our summer fundraiser: The 9th Annual “Everything is Coming Up Rose” Garden Party in Newton at the Durrant-Kendrick House. It will feature a raffle\, silent auction\, light supper\, open bar\, and entertainment \nThe Cat Connection is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) non profit no-kill organization whose primary mission is to rescue abandoned\, abused\, unwanted\, stray\, neglected\, and injured cats\, and to facilitate their adoption into responsible permanent homes. \nThe Cat Connection is celebrating our 25th Anniversary of saving cats this year and would love to have you join us in our mission. All profits from The Garden Party go directly to funding our programs to help unfortunate animals. \nPlease help us raise money for this great cause by co-sponsoring this event\, donating an item for our silent auction or raffle\, or purchasing tickets to the event. \nDonations are tax deductible and will be recognized (unless anonymity is requested). SUMMARY:A Taste of Autumn with Russ Cohen\, Naturalist\, Forager and Wild Edibles Expert
DESCRIPTION:Russ Cohen\, celebrated local naturalist and wild foods enthusiast\, will teach us about the snacks we can find in our own backyards- there’s more out there than you think! Russ will give a presentation about foraging and seeing a landscape with an eye for edibles. It’s a time of year when we enjoy the harvest from our gardens\, but there’s more to enjoy right at our feet if we know how and where to look\, and how to gather safely and respectfully. Some of Russ’s favorites include shagbark hickory\, black walnut and beach plum\, and we’ll be lucky enough to taste some of his recipes. \nAll attendees will receive a copy of Russ’s book\, Wild Plants I have Known…and Eaten\, which includes foraging tips and recipes\, as part of their registration! \nPassionate about maintaining and expanding our native edible landscape\, Russ can often be found removing invasives and planting native edibles in their place. He is an authority on edible plants\, maintaining a list of about 190 native plant species in Massachusetts and the Northeastern US\, and has led walks and workshops for 50 years. He has consulted on plantings in National Heritage Areas and often proposes plantings that will maintain and enhance local habitats.
