DESCRIPTION:Cherry Street Music will present A Roland Hayes Tribute honoring the first African American man to win international acclaim as a concert artist\, on Sunday November 19th at 3PM\, at The Allen Center in Newton.\nA tenor who made his debut with the Boston Symphony Orchestra (BSO) in 1923\, Roland Hayes was the first Black American performer to appear with the BSO and blazed the trail to public recognition of black singers as serious artists\, including legends Paul Robeson\, Marian Anderson and Leontyne Price. In celebration of the centennial of Hayes’ BSO debut\, acclaimed baritone Philip Lima and tenor Fred C. SUMMARY:Fall Village Concert Series: The Isabel Stover Jazz Quartet
DESCRIPTION:The Isabel Stover Jazz Quartet will be bringing their impressive talents to West Newton at the Allen Center for the Arts to conclude the Fall Village Concert Series. Isabel Stover is known for amazing audiences with her expansive range and ability to paint a picture with her voice. \nIsabel fell in love with Jazz when she landed a spot in the Oakland Jazz Choir\, a thirty-member ensemble in San Francisco. She began performing regularly with the group at Jazz festivals and wanted to learn as much as she could about the art. She enrolled in classes at the California Jazz Conservatory in Berkley and had the opportunity to study under many renowned performers and artists such as Madeline Eastman\, Kitty Margolis\, Sheila Jordan\, and Ledisi. Isabel learned the skills and techniques to become a great singer and performer and now uses her gift to tell stories through her music.
