SUMMARY:Book Launch: Women of Courage and Conviction
DESCRIPTION:Join Newton at Home in celebrating the launch of Women of Courage and Conviction: The Untold Stories of Five Extraordinary Newton at Home Members\, written by longtime member & volunteer Dorothy Anger. \nIn this inspiring new book\, Dorothy brings to light the remarkable life stories of five women in our city whom she met through Newton at Home. These women’s experiences span continents and eras: one walked from Newton to Washington\, D.C. in a “Walk for Peace”; another grew up in Argentina during the Perón regime; two survived their childhoods as Jews under the Nazi regime; and the fifth became a global leader in women’s reproductive health and health systems management. \nCome hear about the journeys of these courageous women\, celebrate their resilience and achievements\, and honor the power of storytelling to connect us across generations. \nThis is a panel discussion with the author and four of the five women featured in the book. Copies of the book will be available for purchase at the event.*

SUMMARY:Necessary Trouble: A fireside chat with Drew Gilpin Faust
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an unforgettable evening with Drew Gilpin Faust\, historian\, trailblazing first woman president of Harvard\, and author of Necessary Trouble: Growing Up at Midcentury. In this deeply personal memoir\, Faust reflects on coming of age in the South during the civil rights and antiwar movements—moments of upheaval and transformation that echo powerfully in today’s political climate. As democracy is tested\, rights are debated\, and activism surges anew\, Faust’s story reminds us that young voices—and necessary trouble—can shape the future. Don’t miss this chance to hear from one of the most influential scholars of our time as she connects the past to our urgent present. \nWine and cheese will be served\, and Dr. Faust will do a book signing following the conversation.
