Powering Newton’s Future: Community Networked Geothermal\, is part of Massachusetts Clean Energy Week and will introduce the community to the transformative potential of community networked geothermal energy systems. \nIn collaboration with State Renewable Energy\, Green Newton will present how this innovative technology can transform the way Newton heats and cools homes and buildings while dramatically reducing carbon emissions. The event will provide an opportunity for attendees to learn how geothermal technology works\, its potential implementation in Newton\, and hear directly from industry experts and community members who have experienced its benefits. \n“We are thrilled to bring this innovative technology to the attention of Newton’s residents\,” said Judy Jacobs\, Executive Director of Green Newton. “Community networked geothermal energy has the potential to make a significant impact on the way we manage our energy needs\, and this event will highlight the possibility of a pilot project in the neighborhood near Countryside School. This online gathering is designed for those engaged in or eager to\nadopt sustainable building practices in their houses of worship to reduce energy use and promote clean energy. The event is open to anyone involved in building decision-making\,\nincluding clergy\, financial teams\, green teams\, property management\, board members\, and other leadership roles. \nAt this event\, participants will learn about greening congregations from representatives from GreenerU\, who will discuss the many ways that houses of worship and other nonprofits can plan and implement energy projects. Participants will also have the opportunity to share their challenges and progress in reducing their energy use in their congregations. \nThis free online event is hosted by Green Newton\, The Climate Action Task Force of the First Unitarian Universalist Society in Newton and the Boston Catholic Climate Movement. SUMMARY:Networked Geothermal Volunteer Training
DESCRIPTION:Green Newton is inviting local residents to participate in a short training to become Home Visit Volunteers as part of an initiative to evaluate the feasibility of a networked\ngeothermal system in the Countryside School neighborhood. The first volunteer training takes place on October 8\, 7:00 pm at Auburndale Builders\, 151R Adams St\, Newton. This volunteer opportunity allows participants to help gather essential data that will determine whether this innovative clean energy solution is a viable option for heating and cooling homes in the area. \nNetworked geothermal technology uses a series of heat pumps connected to underground wells\, providing an efficient and sustainable alternative to conventional heating and cooling\nsystems. Green Newton is exploring the possibility of implementing a system near Countryside Elementary School and seeks community involvement to collect important information about local homes’ heating and cooling characteristics. \nVolunteers will receive training in October. During the training\, they will learn how to conduct home visits and collect basic data about residential heating and cooling systems. No prior\nexpertise is required—volunteers need only the ability to recognize heating and cooling systems. After training\, volunteers will begin visiting homes in the neighborhood\, gathering data over the course of several months. Home visits will be scheduled at the convenience of both\nvolunteers and homeowners. \nThose interested in volunteering can sign up for the October 8 training session on Green Newton’s website: greennewton.org/home-volunteer. If the October training date is not feasible\, alternative sessions will be arranged.
