As much as the kids may hate to hear it, school starts back up in about seven weeks.
For a lot of families in need, stocking up on school supplies can be a challenge. Inflation doesn’t help, either. So Newton Neighbors—a local nonprofit that formed during the COVID-19 pandemic—is partnering with The Village Bank, Auburndale Community Library and Fulfilled Goods on a School Supply Drive.
From July 14 to Aug. 4, you can donate a variety of items (listed below) at several drop-off locations (also listed below) to help get a kid’s school year off to a good start.
Donations can’t have monograms or company logos. Here are the things most needed:
- New or gently used graphing calculators
- Noise cancelling headphones
- New or gently used backpacks (priority: middle and high school backpacks)
- New or gently used lunchboxes
- Water bottles
- $25 gift cards to Target for school supplies

If you’d like to receive donated items, contact the Newton Social Services Division at 617-796-1420 or talk to a school social worker about school supplies availability.
