The push to repeal Newton’s winter overnight parking ban met a narrow defeat on Tuesday.
Neither the “yes” nor the “no” side had a plural majority as of late Tuesday night, according to unofficial results from the city clerk’s office. The “no,” votes, which won, amount to 48 percent of the total vote. The “yes” votes came in at 47.7 percent. The remaining 4.3 percent accounts for blanks.
Law students Jeremy Freudberg and Peter Klapes drafted the ballot question to address what they said was an outdated parking policy for four months out of the year.
The issue became a hotly debated one, with supporters of a repeal pointing to inconveniences that come with having to move cars every night and opponents of a repeal saying the ban prevents parking pandemonium citywide.
