DESCRIPTION:Throughout the past century\, Hollywood movies have been a major force in embedding the notion of the American dream in our individual aspirations\, our public discourse\, and our collective consciousness. They have offered varied perspectives on this very essence of our national self-image—sometimes extolling and sometimes challenging the premises and promises of the dream. This film series will showcase a range of movies that explore both the hopes and betrayals of the American dream. Screenings will take place once a month on Thursdays at 4:00PM. DESCRIPTION:Come and hear the wonderful musicians of the First Unitarian Universalist Society in concert on Sunday\, March 8\, 2026 at 2pm in the FUUSN Sanctuary. This concert is a fundraiser for the UU Urban Ministry. You’ll hear classical chamber music by pianists Paul Antonucci and Lois Shapiro\, along with guitarists Bob MacWilliams and Chris Welles. Of course the intrepid FUUSN Band will be there\, rocking the house. Enjoy the fantastic array of musical styles and moods: a cappella singing\, classical works\, bluegrass tunes\, jazz and more. Yoshimi captured international attention when he became the youngest-ever winner of the 86th Music Competition of Japan at just 17. Since then\, he has earned top prizes in major competitions including a Silver Medal at the Manhattan International Music Competition and semifinalist appearances at the Queen Elisabeth\, Naumburg\, and Gina Bachauer International Piano Competitions. He has performed with leading orchestras across Japan and Europe including the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra and the Orchestre Royal de Chambre de Wallonie. DESCRIPTION:NewTV’s Annual Membership Meeting will be held as a hybrid style meeting on Wednesday\, March 18 at 6:00pm. Members can choose to attend in person at the NewTV studio or via Zoom. Doors will open for our in-person attendees at 5:30PM; light refreshments\, networking\, and tours will be available immediately following the meeting. The meeting will include the approval of 2025 Annual Meeting Minutes\, departmental and financial reports\, and the election of two (2) candidate to the NewTV Board of Directors. \nMembers must be in good standing as of Wednesday\, February 25 at 6:00PM\, in order to be eligible to vote in the election. Due to the hybrid format of this meeting\, voting will be completed both with paper ballots for those attending in person\, as well as with an online form for those attending via Zoom. The online voting form will also be available to those unable to attend the meeting but who still wish to vote. Online voting will be available from Wednesday\, March 11 at 10:00AM through Tuesday\, March 17 at 6:00PM. Paper ballots will be distributed to in-person attendees upon their arrival. DESCRIPTION:Karen Walwyn \nSunday March 22\, 3:00 pm \nSteinway pianist Dr. Karen Walwyn returns to The Allen Center for an illuminating lecture-recital celebrating the incredible life and works of Florence Price. A leading expert on Price’s music\, Dr. Walwyn recorded the world premiere of Price’s Concerto in One Movement with the New Black Music Repertory Ensemble at the Center for Black Music Research in 2011. Her April 9\, 2022 release of Price’s complete solo piano works garnered two five-star reviews from Fanfare\, with critics praising her as “perfectly attuned” to the composer’s voice and describing the recording as “a marvelous release.” Dr. Walwyn serves as a Mellon Faculty Fellow and Professor of Music at Berklee College of Music. We hope you’ll join us for this special opportunity to hear Walwyn’s brilliant and exciting interpretations of Florence Price.
