Listeners will be placed right inside a circle of singers for an evening of offerings by George Gershwin\, Salamone Rossi\, Leonard Bernstein\, Cantor Benjie Ellen Schiller\, Noami Shemer\, Irving Berlin\, and more. \nAs the singers rotate positions and groupings\, audience members will remain at the center\, enjoying a range of polyphonic and\, at times\, interactive music—from meditative to rousing\, whimsical to mystical\, and jazzy to prayerful. \n“Beautiful music is more than a series of melodies\,” said Zamir Founder and Artistic Director Joshua Jacobson. “Like nature or prayer\, it permeates listeners’ souls and inspires them. From the deep spirituality of Lera Auerbach’s T’filah to the baroque elegance of Bach’s Sonata\, the program spans diverse styles and centuries. Including pieces by Bloch\, Kreisler\, and Paganini\, this concert highlights both the power and beauty of the violin in solo performance. \nJewish-American violinist Ilana Zaks has been described as\, “fearless\, refreshing\, and commanding.” She has performed as a soloist with the Boston Civic Symphony\, the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra\, and the Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra\, among others. Her many honors include top prizes at concerto competitions such as the 2020 BMOP Concerto Competition and the New England Philharmonic Orchestra. \nThis program is generously sponsored by the Jayne Colino Fund of the Senior Citizens Fund of Newton. \nRSVP requested.
